Plan to put hazmat trucks on Route 128

Local public officials along the Route 128 corridor and trucking and business advocates spoke out in unison on Tuesday, Aug. 30, condemning a proposal by the city of Boston to reroute trucks carrying hazardous materials to their cities and towns.

Boston’s proposal would prevent trucks carrying hazardous waste from using the city as a cut-through, and divert the traffic to Route 128. Only hazmat traffic coming from Boston or arriving in Boston would be allowed to continue their regular operations, under the proposition.
